The Department of Informatics is a dynamic international environment which performs cutting-edge research and enjoys a strong international recognition and visibility. The department’s visualization research group focuses on new solutions for the effective and efficient visualization of large and complex data from measurements, computational simulation or from analytic modeling for the purpose of data exploration, analysis, and presentation. Despite being a relatively young group, the recent ten-year evaluation of all 62 informatics research groups in Norway conducted by an international evaluation panel on behalf of Norway’s Research Council concluded with an overall assessment of “very good to excellent”. Overall, the Department of Informatics at UiB also received the best scores among all computer science departments in Norway. There is a close cooperation with Haukeland university hospital in Bergen, Christian Michelsen Research, Bioinformatical Group at UiB and industry partners such as GE Healthcare.
